I graduated from Central Michigan University in 1987 with a degree in Recreation and Park Administration with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation. During my college years I worked at a summer camp beginning as a counselor and horseback riding instructor and progressing to Program Director. I also worked for the Waterford School District and their fifth grade camp program. After college I was employed at Vista Maria a Secure placement for court appointed troubled girls. I was with Vista Maria for 11 years and was certified in many group therapies including family therapy and individual counseling. I was a trainer in Recreation Therapy, Teambuilding, and Red Cross First Aid, CPR and Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor. I was part of the team that developed a new award winning short term program for teens. After my second child I chose to spend some time at home and opened Bonnie’s Bizzy Beez, Licensed Family Day Care for 2 years . I have most recently been working for Botsford Commons Senior Community as Recreation Coordinator for 9 years. I created programs and events to entertain and educate adult seniors. I am excited to spend some time teaching and engaging minds again.
Having spent my life in education, traveling field trips seemed like a fun and logical offshoot. I am a teacher. I am certified in the state of Michigan to teach at the elementary and secondary levels and have also earned a certificate in Montessori at the preschool level. In addition, I have facilitated parent education programs. Education is and has always been a focus of my life, as a student, teacher and parent. I believe in education, and I believe that it never ends. Providing exciting and interesting programs for learners of all ages is central to my life.
